These printouts are designed to be used with Starfall's Learn
to Read with Phonics method. Reading and writing are closely related. When children
write, they focus on the letter-sounds in words and learn phonics. The printouts emphasize
consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC words (i.e. cat, pet, dog) and help build confidence for the beginning
reader. Teachers have permission to make copies*.
Level I Journal for Zac the Rat Sequence
Provides practice with CVC words, diphthongs, fill-in-the-blank sentences, punctuation, and writing
prompts.
Children feel ownership and gain confidence when they read Zac the Rat and other tales as take-home
books in printed form. You are invited to print these books which match the website:
Illustrated word-banks give nouns, verbs, and adjectives to use with writing prompts and blank lines
provide structured space for children to write sentences.
* ATTENTION TEACHERS: You have permission to copy our printouts for
your student's use (not for resale).
For multiple copies, it may be more cost-effective to
buy the
Level I Journal, buy the
Cut-Up Take-Home Books, or
buy the Level II
Journal
for a few cents a page.
Starfall's journals are uncluttered and especially suited
for beginning readers and children with reading disabilities such
as dyslexia.
